Betting Options in Blackjack
Now that you know the basic rules of the game, it’s time to dive deeper into the subject of blackjack betting options. Here are some terms you will come across while playing casino blackjack:
Hit or Stand
Once you’re dealt your cards, you have two options before you. The first one is to “Stand,” which means that you’re satisfied with your hand and don’t want any additional cards. To “Hit” means to ask the dealer to deal you another card.
Split
In some casinos, there is an option that allows the player to split one hand into two separate hands, thus boosting the chance of beating the dealer. This option is available only when you are dealt two cards of the same value.
Double Down
You decide your stake before each hand, although some casinos have the option that enables you to double your bet mid-hand. This option, however, comes with a caveat, which is that you can’t draw additional cards.
Insurance
If the dealer gets an Ace as their face-up card, you get the option to insure your hand against the dealer getting the 10 card, which would mean their win.
Surrender
Some casinos let you “Surrender” your hand if you don’t like the cards you’re dealt with. By “surrendering,” you give away half of your bet to the dealer.
